An Entertainment Industry Non-Profit Organization

The California Copyright Conference was established in 1953 for the discussion of copyright-related areas pertaining to music and entertainment. There were seven founding members. The CCC expanded during the next two years, taking its present form in 1955 under the presidency of famed songwriter Harold Spina.

Today, the scope of the CCC has expanded to cover all matters pertaining to music industry issues. The organization has grown to over 300 members from all areas of the music and entertainment industry, including publishers, songwriters, attorneys, representatives from trade publications, performing rights societies, motion pictures, television, multimedia, Internet, and record companies.

The CCC holds monthly dinner meetings on selected Tuesdays, with a hiatus in June, July and August. The December meeting is our annual holiday party; the January meeting is held early in the month to accomodate MIDEM. The monthly meetings feature a guest speaker or panel on a broad range of subjects of interest to the members, as well as a "Legal Update" on current litigation and legislation that affects our industry.

Past topics have included the signing, development and marketing of alternative music, performance rights in sound recordings, digital audio home taping royalties, music licensing, fair use and parody, country music, children's music, television music, film music, R and B soundtrack albums, independent record labels, an evening with Oscar-nominated composers and songwriters, getting songs on radio, the relationship between music agents, cleints, and the studios, controlled compositions, the effects of Common Market changes on U.S. publishers and labels, rap sampling, interactive technology, and the challenges of the Internet.

The general membership of the CCC elects the Officers and Board of Directors of the organization. All members are encouraged to participate actively in the running of the organization and meetings. Dinner charges and membership fees are tax-deductible. MCLE credit is available for attorneys. The CCC is a non-profit organization.

We invite you to join the members of the California Copyright Conference as we continue to serve the music and entertainment industry by promoting dialogue about the issues of concern to all of us.

"This organization has been formed to, and shall at all times encourage, foster and promote an interest in, and the study of, all materials relating to the copyrighting and other protection of intellectual and creative properties."
